How Bunt calculates grades

How a student's final grade is built from individual grades.

Overview

Every grade belongs to a grade category. Bunt averages the grades within each category and weights the results to form the final grade.

Grade categories and weighting

This guide uses the following structure:

  • Final grade
  • Written (50%)
  • Oral (50%)

The student receives one grade in Written and two grades in Oral.

Grade points run from 0 (very poor) to 15 (excellent). Bunt calls this point system the grading scheme.

Example 1: Calculation with the grading scheme only

Here you enter every grade directly as grade points.

Three individual grades combine into two category averages and the final grade 10

Entered grades

Step 1: Average per category

Bunt averages all grades within each category.

Grade categoryCalculationResult
Written99
Oral(12 + 8) ÷ 210

Step 2: Weighted final grade

Each category contributes with its weighting.

Grade categoryCalculationShare
Written9 × 50%4.5
Oral10 × 50%5.0
Final grade4.5 + 5.0 = 9.510

The final grade is rounded to whole grade points.

Example 2: Calculation with a grading scheme and a grading key

Here the Test is graded with a grading key. You enter the points achieved and Bunt converts them into grade points. The oral grades stay the same as in Example 1.

Grading key for the test

The grading key assigns a grade-point value to every achieved share.
